Tapeswaram is a well-known place because of its delicious Andhra sweet dish called "Tapeswaram Khaja". This dish is famous for its unique taste and appearance; it looks like a folded mat with a light brown color on the outside and a wheat color on the inside. The juice oozes out from between the layers, making it even more mouth-watering. People of all ages love its taste and it has become a popular dessert that binds people together. Tapeswaram Khaja is not only famous in Andhra Pradesh but also across the entire country. Many people take it as a gift for their friends and relatives when they visit other places. Visitors to the district make sure to taste it before leaving. This sweet dish is so special that it is served at many national-level political meets and conferences across the state.
Mr. Polisetty Satti Raju and his family moved to Tapeswaram from Brahmapuri Village (near Kotipalli) when his father relocated there. At that time, Mr. Ramaswamy owned a sweet stall in Mandapeta where Mr. Polisetty Satti Raju worked. When Mr. Ramaswamy closed his shop, Mr. Polisetty Satti Raju started his own coffee hotel in the village. With his previous experience, he made sweets in a unique way that appealed to many people, and soon his name became famous across the state.
This encouraged Mr. Polisetty Satti Raju to start making sweets as a full-time business. His family members followed his example and established their own sweet stalls in the village. In addition to Khaja, he also made other Andhra specialties like Arisalu, Sunnundalu, Khajjikayalu, and many other varieties. The business became a family affair, and Mr. Malli Babu took over after his father. He used a combination of manpower and machinery to make khaja, which increased production capacity while maintaining quality to meet the demands of their customers.
